Privacy Policy — MyAquaLogy
MyAquaLogy ("the app", "we", "us") is a hydration reminder and tracking app. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it is kept, and what leaves your device.
Summary (plain language)
- Your hydration data stays on your device. We do not run an account system or a sync server for it. Your hydration logs, profile, reminders, workouts and settings are stored only on your phone.
- We do not sell your personal data or disclose it for advertising, profiling, or unrelated commercial purposes. Limited technical or location data may be processed by the service providers described in this policy when you use the relevant features.
- We do not use advertising identifiers. No advertising ID is collected.
- Optional product analytics is OFF by default. We never send your name or your hydration entries. If you turn on "Usage analytics", Firebase collects limited technical data to help us improve the app (details below).
- We use crash reporting to fix bugs, and a few features send a request off your device only when you use them: weather, purchases, and (if you choose) Health Connect and sign-in. Details below.
What data the app handles, and where it stays
The following is stored locally on your device (in the app's private storage) and is never sent to us:
- Profile you enter: your weight, optional height, age, a gender option, and your wake/sleep schedule. Your daily goal is calculated on your device from your weight (with age used to set an age-appropriate goal); the gender option is saved as part of your profile but does not affect your goal.
- Hydration activity: the drinks you log, daily totals, goals, streaks and achievements.
- Reminders & settings: your reminder window, frequency, sound/vibration and app preferences.
- Workouts and adjustments: workout type, duration, intensity, optional active calories imported from Health Connect, and the weather readings used to adjust your goal.
You can export this data (JSON/CSV), create or import a local backup, and delete all data at any time from within the app. Uninstalling the app also removes this local data from your device (Android cloud backup is disabled for the app).
Exported files are saved in the location you choose and may contain profile, hydration, workout, and other health-related information. Once exported or shared, those copies are outside the app's private storage. Deleting app data or uninstalling MyAquaLogy does not delete previously exported files.
Analytics and crash reporting
To keep the app stable and to improve it, we use Google Firebase. We never send your identity, account, or your hydration entries.
- Crash and stability reporting — enabled by default: Firebase Crashlytics may process crash reports, ANR and non-fatal error diagnostics, app version, device and operating-system information, timestamps, stack traces, and installation identifiers. We do not intentionally attach hydration entries, age, weight, height, workout values, Health Connect records, location, email addresses, or custom user identifiers to crash reports.
- Product analytics (Firebase Analytics) — off by default: aggregate usage events (for example which screens are opened). Analytics collection is disabled at app startup and stays off unless you opt in under Profile → Privacy → Usage analytics; when off, no analytics events are collected and no background analytics collection happens.
- As part of this reporting, Firebase may process limited technical data — such as a Firebase-generated app-instance (installation) identifier, device information, and IP address — which may count as personal data under some laws. We do not combine it with your hydration data or use it to identify you.
- No advertising identifier. The advertising-ID permissions are removed from the app, so no advertising/cross-app identifier is collected, and this data is never used for advertising.
Firebase's handling of this data is governed by Google's privacy terms.
Health Connect (optional)
If you choose to connect Health Connect, the app requests read-only access, used only for the features you enable:
- Exercise sessions and Active calories burned — processed on your device to identify workouts you recorded on a phone, band or watch and estimate the workout-related adjustment to that day's hydration goal.
- Hydration — only if you use a smart water bottle or another app that writes drinks to Health Connect, so those drinks are imported into your log.
The app never writes to Health Connect and never transmits Health Connect data off your device. It is read on your device only, is not used for advertising, and is not sold or shared. You can revoke access at any time in the Health Connect settings; the app keeps working without it. We request only the minimum permissions needed for the features above.
Location and weather
- Location is optional. Weather also works from a city you type in, so location is requested only if you opt in.
- If you enable it, the app uses your approximate (coarse) location to fetch local weather.
- To get the weather, the app sends your coordinates or the city name to Open-Meteo (
open-meteo.com), a free weather service that requires no account or API key. Only what is needed for the forecast is sent, at the moment of the request. - We store only the resulting weather reading (e.g. temperature, humidity) on your device to adjust your goal. We do not keep a location history.
- Open-Meteo's handling of requests is governed by their own privacy terms.
Sign-in (optional)
Most of the app works with no account. On the upgrade screen, MyAquaLogy may offer Sign in with Google to check whether your account is on an access list that grants entitlement (used by testers and allow-listed users). This is optional, is used only to verify access, is not used for advertising, and is not sold. You can use the app's hydration tracking without signing in.
Bluetooth
If you grant Bluetooth permission, the app reads the names of already-paired wearables (band/watch) only to show you that your device is recognized. The app does not read data from the band over Bluetooth and does not transmit anything; a wearable's activity reaches the app only through Health Connect.
Notifications
The app uses notifications to deliver your hydration reminders and (optionally) a morning greeting. Reminders are generated locally on your device.
Purchases
If you purchase a subscription or one-time upgrade, the transaction is handled by Google Play Billing. Google processes the payment; we do not receive or store your payment card details. Google's handling of your purchase is subject to Google's privacy policy.
What we do NOT do
- We do not require an account to track your hydration.
- We do not sell or rent your personal or health data, and we do not disclose it for advertising or unrelated commercial purposes.
- We do not show ads or use advertising identifiers.
- We do not upload your hydration history to our servers.
Data security
Because your hydration data stays on your device in the app's private storage, its security is tied to your device's security (screen lock, encryption, OS protections). We recommend keeping your device protected with a lock screen.
Data retention and deletion
- Your on-device data is retained until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- You can delete everything at any time via Delete all data in the app, and you can export a copy first if you wish.
- Deleting app data does not delete previously exported files, records stored in Health Connect by other apps, Google Play purchase records, or technical data already processed by third-party providers.
- Analytics and crash data are retained by Google according to their retention policies; you can turn off Usage analytics at any time.
